Painted Candles

For that technique you will need to have candles, gouache paint, a bit of dishwashing detergent, brushes, and, in the end, your imagination. You better begin with something easy; let’s say, for example, that you better begin with painting candles that you’re going to put on the dining table. Paint half of them with horizontal stripes, while paint the other half with vertical stripes; colours should be pastel and dim. How to ink it? The easiest way is to use gouache or poster-paint with a few drops of some dishwashing liquid that will make the paint softer, and thus it will be easier to ink it. The surface of a candle should be clean. To begin with, you must prepare a candle; wipe it with a wet cloth and dry it thoroughly, this way the paint is going to ink better. You should dot a candle with paint to make the picture be symmetric.
Let’s say that we’re going to paint it with stars. At first carefully make the dots bigger, painting them like stars. It is much easier to paint a little star which will soon you will enlarge, than to paint a proper star in the very beginning. When the paint is dry, and if you want to add some pattern or multidimensionality, you should scratch a spiral up with a darning needle at the centre of each star.
